Wine Lies…
The Host
You need a Host who does not play, 4–16 adults, and four wines. Beginners need no vocabulary. Wine Lies is a wine tasting party game, not an exam and not trivia.
Set up
One Host who does not take a seat. They know the wines, the tasks, and who the Liar is. They may drink along.
4–16 players. Four majority wines, one per round. The Liar can drink a wine from another round.
The app, or a printed analog kit. Glasses marked with character tokens. A prize for the Liar who survives round four.
The first 60 seconds
Everyone gets wine and a secret task. Most of you drink the same wine. One glass is different. Nobody is told who the Liar is — not even the Liar.
Your job is two things: what the main wine is, and who the Liar is. Skip the task and your vote is thrown out. The night still goes on.
I will not ask you to describe the wine. I will ask things like apple or peach, fresh or rich, fish or steak.
Beginners
Casual only needs country and the Liar for a Perfect Round. Grape stays on the sheet for the shield, not because this is an exam.
If tastings feel stuffy, run the practice night with no wine first. Same hunt for the Liar, no bottles.
This is not
A blind tasting usually gives everyone the same mystery wine and asks for grape or price. Wine Lies gives most of the table the same wine and one person a different glass, plus secret tasks. Catching the Liar is the game.
Wine trivia works without a pour. Wine Lies needs wine in the glass. If you wanted A–B–C cards, this is the wrong product.
Teams
The same table works for teams: a Host runs it, nobody needs to be a sommelier. Butelka can pack the bottles. Public Butelka nights when a date is live.
Anything else?
Perfect. The Host asks apple or peach, not “describe the wine.” On Casual, a Perfect Round is country plus the Liar.
Yes. Print the analog kit and let the Host run the night on paper.
Related, not the same. A typical blind tasting gives everyone the same mystery wine and asks for grape or price. In Wine Lies most glasses match, one is different, and secret tasks hide clues. Catching the Liar is the game. Naming the wine is the second payoff.
No. Trivia works without a pour. Wine Lies needs wine in the glass, a Host who does not play, and a table hunting the Liar.
